Concerning my decision to drop out of university... the only person that wasn't confident in my future in music was my mother, thus it took me 2 years to successfully drop out with her blessing. 'Momma Says' is about the agony of disappointing a parent in the pursuit of happiness.
lyrics
My momma says you gotta go to school and be somebody
My best friend says you gotta live it up
You're only here once
My momma says you gotta go to school and be somebody
My best friend says you gotta live it up
You're only here once
Follow my heart I tell myself
In one world I'm a girl who goes to college
Makes the right choice
I've got a boss and boyfriend
Rarely get to hear my own voice
I've got a puppy and I'm pregnant with a girl of my own
What will I teach her?
What will I teach her?
In the other view I've got a string of boyfriends
Scattered 'round the globe
And buxom ladies wanna have me too
They think that I'm a wild woman
Am I a wild woman?
I'll sing a lullaby
They sink the needle, roll their eyes
And in the mornin'- big surprise
I'm in the next city
Don't say goodbye
Never say goodbye
Follow your heart I tell myself
Follow your heart is what I say
You'll play the part either way
So follow your heart either way
